Wakefield Post 81 Seniors use complete game from Thompson, advance to Sunday at 2-0

One day after utilizing a combined no-hitter on the hill, the Wakefield Post 81 Seniors battled a fellow 1-0 tournament team.

Back at the David Nitzschke Memorial Field in Pender on Saturday, the Class C Area 2 Senior American Legion baseball tournament moved into their second day of competition.

#4 Wakefield Post 81 improved to 13-13 following an 8-4 victory over #5 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells Post 85. Wakefield has now won five of their past six outings.

Neither team scored in the opening inning until Post 81 used back-to-back three-run innings in the second and third to lead 6-0. Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells answered with a three-run fourth. Following back-to-back scoreless innings, Wakefield Post 81 used a 2-1 advantage in the seventh and held onto the 8-4 victory. Both teams recorded six hits.

Tanner Thompson singled, drove in two runs and scored while Cade Johnson singled and drove in two runs.

Ryan Anderson and Timothy Kaufman both singled and drove in a run; Jacob Birkley singled and scored; Johnny Birkley singled; Mason Lamprecht accounted for a RBI and two runs scored; Adrian Flores added a RBI; Cael Johnson scored twice as Tate Salmon scored.

Thompson (97 pitches) picked up the complete game victory in seven innings allowing four runs off six hits while striking out four batters and walking two.

#6 Tekamah-Herman Post 15/274 eliminated #2 Plainview Post 148, 11-2 while in the #1 Pender Post 55 improved to 2-0 in tournament and knocked out #3 Oakland Post 46, 9-1.
