The Wakefield Community Schools Board of Education met in special session on June 8 for the purpose of interviewing candidates for the position of interim superintendent.
Shari Becker with the Nebraska School Board Association spoke to the board on the process the board committee had gone through to find qualified candidates for the position. She said that 19 candidates had been contacted but due to the time frame, several were unavailable.
Following the interviews and board discussion, the board voted unanimously to begin negotiations with Dr. Ted DeTurk for a contract that would run from July 1, 2026 to June 30, 2027.
