Wakefield sees season end in C2-4 subdistrict

The Wakefield volleyball team lost to top-seeded Ponca in the C2-4 subdistrict tournament at Wayne High School to close out the 2016 campaign.
In their opener, Wakefield made quick work of Omaha Nation, posting a straight-set victory, 25-12, 25-3, 25-10.
Avery Zamzow led the net attack with six kills, with Savannah Nelson adding five, Jessica Borg putting down four, Megan Borg and Giulia Ballarini each scoring two and Briana Andrade and Shani Ramirez adding one kill apiece. Megan Borg had 19 ace serves, Rachel Brudigam added seven, Nelson had four and Ballarini had two.
Jessica Borg had 10 assists, Nelson added seven, Tanna Pretzer had two and Megan Borg had one. Defensively, Megan Borg had eight digs, Nelson had four, Jessica Borg had three, Brudigam and Zamzow each had two and Ballarini and Andrea Lopez both had one.
Wakefield gave Ponca a challenge, but the top-seeded Indians won in three sets, 25-14, 25-23, 25-20.
Nelson had 10 kills, Jessica Borg added six, Megan Borg had five, Zamzow had four, Ballarini had three and Brudigam and Andrade each had one for the Trojan net attack. Jessica Borg was in on eight blocks, Zamzow had six, Ballarini and Megan Borg each had three and Nelson had one.
Jessica Borg had 14 assists and Nelson added 13. Defensively, Andrade and Ballarini each had 13 digs, Brudigam and Megan Borg both had 10, Nelson had six, Jessica Borg had four, Brenna Chase had two and Zamzow had one.
The Trojans end the season with an 11-16 record.
