Post 81 closed out winner’s bracket competition of the Class C Senior American Legion baseball state tournament with the recent champion.
Back at Eaton Field in Wakefield, the host Post 81 took on the two-time defending Class C Senior Legion champion Malcolm Post 354 Sunday evening.
Malcolm picked up the 9-2 victory over Wakefield to improve to 24-5. Post 81 fell to 21-18.
Malcolm led 2-1 after the first inning and posted back-to-back single run innings during the second and third to lead 4-1. Malcolm then added four runs in the fourth to lead 8-1. Post 81 scored once more in the fifth as Malcolm tacked on a single run in the top of the sixth. Final favored Malcolm Post 354 winning 9-2 and winning the hit department, 8-2 as Wakefield committed seven errors (one by Malcolm).
Cade Johnson tripled and scored while Tanner Thompson singled and scored for Wakefield.
Timothy Kaufman (98 pitches) suffered the loss in five innings allowing eight runs (four earned) off seven hits while striking out one batter, walking three and hitting three. Cael Johnson (21) worked an inning allowing one run off one hit while striking out two batters and walking one. Mason Lamprecht (11) pitched the final inning striking out one batter.
Earlier in the day, Pender Post 55 (20-8) won 8-0 over Crofton Post 128 (14-14) while Tecumseh Post 2 (21-4) won 12-1 against Imperial Horns Post 304 (22-7) in the elimination round.
The other winner’s bracket game favored Palmer-Wolbach-Greeley Post 120/236/186 (21-7) winning 10-1 over Albion Cornerstone Bank Post 162 (23-7).
