Wakefield Seniors shut out Oakland

Class C Area 2 Senior American Legion baseball tournament action is underway for several northeast Nebraska teams.

From the David Nitzschke Memorial Field in Pender, #4 Wakefield Post 81 played the first game of the day on Friday against #3 Oakland Post 46.

Wakefield improved to 12-13 thanks to an 8-0 victory. Post 81 has won four of their past five games.

Post 81 began by scoring four runs in the top of the first. Following a scoreless second, Wakefield added two runs in the third and then scored twice more in the fifth to won 8-0. Post 81 outhit, Oakland, 10-0.

Adrian Flores singled twice, doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice;  Tanner Thompson singled, drove in three runs and scored while Jacob Birkley singled twice.

Jesse Lundahl singled, drove in a run and scored; Johnny Birkley and Cade Johnson both singled and scored; Mason Lamprecht singled and drove in a run as Timothy Kaufman scored.

Two Wakefield pitchers combined for the no-hitter. Lundahl (30 pitches) accounted for the win in an inning and two-thirds striking out four batters and walking one. Kaufman (39) worked the final three and a third innings striking out two batters and walking four.

Other Friday scores favored #5 Wisner-Pilger/Dodge-Howells winning 10-4 over #2 Plainview Post 148 while the host #1 Pender Post 55 won 7-0 against #6 Tekamah-Herman Post 15/274.
