Wakefield Trojan week five fall sports recap: XC, volleyball, football

With the North Bend Invite being canceled due to weather, Wakefield cross country runners were off late in September.

Next up for Wakefield XC will be the Stanton Invite on Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. pending weather.

The Trojans will also travel to the Cuming County Fairgrounds in West Point for the East Husker Conference meet on Oct. 8 at 4:30 p.m. before district action is set for Oct. 15 in Pender.

 

A home triangular match and road competition were on the docket for Wakefield volleyball.

First from the Wakefield main gym on Sept. 24, the host Trojans suffered losses in straight sets against Wynot (17-25, 24-26) and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (17-25, 11-25).

Recently on Sept. 28, Wakefield dropped a 3-0 decision at Tri County Northeast (16-25, 21-25, 16-25) in Emerson.

The Trojans are now 1-18 on the season.

 

 

Wakefield dropped their fourth straight and were also shutout out for the third time this season.

From Ponca, the visiting Trojans suffered a 76-0 loss at Ponca.

Wakefield is now 1-4 on the season.

Head Trojan football coach Joe Kvidera said, "we did not play well at all and were just outplayed in all phases of the game. We will need to roll up our sleeves again this week and try to right the ship."
