Wakefield Trojan week four fall sports recap: XC, volleyball, football

Pender was the place to be for the Wakefield girls and boys cross country program.

From Twin Creeks Golf Club on Sept. 17, the Wakefield girls finished ninth with 80 points while the Trojan boys placed fifth (64).

In the girls division, Jamie Lopez led Wakefield with a 24th place finish (23:43.2) followed by Arianna Zarate (34th - 24:46.8).

During boys action, Colt Johnson collected a sixth place medal for the Trojans in 17:44.5.

 

Trojan volleyball took part in  a home and away match in the past week.

First from the Wakefield main gym, the host Trojans suffered a 3-0 loss against Pender (14-25, 19-25, 16-25) on Sept. 17 followed by a heart-breaking five-set road loss at Leigh (20-25, 25-19, 6-25, 25-22, 5-15) on Sept. 22.

Wakefield is now 1-15 on the season.

Quinn Riewer posted a team-high nine kills, 12 digs and a block against Pender while Claire Walsh led the Trojans in digs with 18.

Molly Schlickbernd (nine digs, three kills) and Taylor Brown (seven digs, two kills) both dished out nine assists. 

 

For the second straight week, Wakefield was on their home turf.

From Gardner Stadium on Sept. 18, the host Trojans dropped a 38-14 decision against Lutheran High Northeast.

Wakefield is now 1-3 on the season.

Matthew Metzler finished the night with 140 yards on 23 carries and two scores. He also completed  5-of-10 passing for 41 yards. 

Mark Reyes recorded a team-high 12 tackles (nine solo) followed by Osborne-Pearce with nine tackles and a team-high eight solo stops.
