As many teams looked to avoid a second straight week of canceled races, the Wakefield girls and boys cross country program was able to add new competition to their schedule.

From Creighton on Oct 1., the Wakefield girls (26 pts) and boys (30 pts) both finished third during the Creighton invite.

In the girls division, four medalists were led by Arianna Zarate (sixth - 22:01).

During boys action, Colt Johnson stole the show with a gold medal finish leading the field of 42 runners on the 5,000-meter course in a time of 17:07. Will Benson also earned a 13th place medal (18:42) as Giovanny Prado just missed the medal stand in 16th (18:53) by about a second.

A pair of matches were on the Wakefield volleyball schedule with just a handful of regular season outings and their conference tournament remaining.

From the main gym in Wakefield on Oct. 1, the host Trojans suffered a four set loss against Bancroft-Rosalie (16-25, 18-25, 28-26, 16-25) followed by a four-set road loss at Ponca (25-23, 13-25, 22-25, 19-25) on Oct. 6.

Wakefield is now 1-20 on the season and have dropped 13 straight.

Wakefield was glad to be back home but ran into a hot Stanton football squad on Oct. 2.

From Gardner Stadium, the host Trojans suffered an 82-12 loss against Stanton (6-0).

Wakefield fell to 1-5, dropping their fifth straight.

Both Matthew Metzler and Daniel Jimenez scored for the Trojans.
