Wakefield Trojan week two fall sports recap: XC, volleyball, football

A location and time change was made ahead of the Wisner-Pilger Invite where Wakefield cross county were among the many teams in action.

Originally scheduled for 5 p.m. in Beemer, the races were moved up to the morning time and relocated to Wisner River Park on Sept. 3.

The Wakefield girls finished eighth (134 pts) while the Trojan boys took sixth (120).

In the girls division, Wakefield was led by Angie Gomez (41st - 24:57.5).

During boys action, Colt Johnson captured a fourth place medal in 17:35.7 for Wakefield.

 

It was a busy two-day tourney for Wakefield volleyball as the Trojans competed in the NEN Jean Groth classic in early September.

From Pender during Pool B action on Sept. 3, the Trojans dropped a pair of 2-0 matches to Wayne (15-25, 17-25) and Pender (15-25, 15-25) before falling to the Bronze Division also held in Pender.

Sept. 5 results showcased a trio of losses by Wakefield dropping to West Point-Beemer (18-25, 23-25), North Bend Central (17-25, 23-25) as well as a 2-1 loss against Tekamah-Herman (13-25, 25-19, 12-25).

In recent action, the Trojans swept Madison (25-22, 25-14, 25-23) in Wakefield on Sept. 8.

Wakefield secured their first win of the season improving to 1-7.

 

After securing a home victory to begin their season, the Wakefield football team found it tough to put points on the board in road action.

From Clarkson, the visiting Trojans (Class D1) suffered a 36-0 loss falling to 1-1.

Class D2 Clarkson improves to 2-0.
