Wakefield volleyball competes in home invite

Northeast Nebraska high school volleyball action took over the main and auxiliary gyms where 20 matches were played on September 11 and September 13 during the Wakefield Invite.

After picking up their first win of the season at Madison earlier in the month, the host Trojans went 0-5 during their home invite.

Wakefield began with a 2-1 loss against Lyons Decatur Northeast on Sept. 11 (23-25, 25-17, 18-25) followed by a 2-0 loss against Ponca (11-25, 6-25).

The host Trojans were then swept in their three matches on Sept. 13 by the eventual champion of Laurel-Concord-Coleridge to close out pool play (10-25, 13-25) as well as consolation bracket losses against Cedar Catholic (16-25, 15-25) and Tekamah-Herman (20-25, 18-25).

Wakefield fell to 1-12.

Senior Sierra Kaufman posted an invite-high 29 kills to go along with six digs and four blocks (one solo).

Senior Ashlyn Riewer recorded a team-high 43 digs as freshman Quinn Riewer added 19 kills and 16 digs.

Senior Gracyn Keagle tallied 18 kills and 15 digs. She also had four service aces and five blocks (one solo).

Sophomore Rihanna Rivera had four blocks (one solo).

Freshman Taylor Brown totaled 66 assists, 22 digs and two kills with one double-double. She also had four service aces.

Wakefield is back on their home court tonight against Howells-Dodge starting at 5:30 p.m.
