Wakefield volleyball invite final results

Championship Saturday took over the Wakefield Volleyball Invite schedule where 12 more matches were played.

From the main and auxiliary gyms in Wakefield, four matches concluded pool play Saturday morning followed by championship and consolation bracket play.

Thursday results.

The host Wakefield picked up a 2-0 sweep over Lutheran High Northeast (25-11, 25-20) while Laurel-Concord-Coleridge won in three sets against Tekamah-Herman (25-12, 24-26, 25-16) to wrap up Pool A.

Pool B results favored Cedar Catholic over Lyons-Decatur Northeast (25-22, 25-11) and Pierce over Ponca (25-15, 25-10) both sweeps.

During the pool play Wakefield loss with Lutheran High Northeast, senior Alli Brown posted 11 kills and nine digs. Sophomores Boston Brown (five kills/five digs) and Montserratt Avila (six kills/seven digs) both had 11 assists as junior Ashlyn Riewer led the team in digs with 12.

Senior Isabella Andrade recorded five kills and four digs as junior Gracyn Keagle added four kills and two digs. Other digs came from freshman Rihanna Rivera with two digs.

Boston Brown recorded five service aces, Avila followed with a pair and Alli Brown had one service ace.

From the pool play LCC victory over Tekamah-Herman, sophomore Rena Rasmussen recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 13 digs to go along with one block. Sophomore Carlie Kvols posted 21 assists, four digs, six kills and a solo block.

Sophomore Kaida Eriksen followed with six kills, 10 digs and a block; senior Tali Erwin tacked on five kills and 10 digs; senior Lainey Schutte tallied three kills, nine digs and a solo block as junior Tyler Recob had two kills. Other digs came from senior Baylie Graf with three.

Rasmussen finished with three service aces while Erwin, Graf and Kvols all had an ace.

Championship bracket teams were LCC, Cedar Catholic, Pierce and Tekamah-Herman while the consolation bracket consisted of the host Wakefield, Lyons Decatur-Northeast, Ponca and Lutheran High Northeast.

For Wakefield in the consolation bracket, the Trojans suffered a three-set loss against Lyons-Decatur Northeast (21-25, 25-17, 20-25) before finishing eighth following a loss in three sets against Lutheran High Northeast (30-32, 25-21, 18-25). Wakefield is now 4-9 on the season.

Other match results favored Ponca in three sets over Lutheran High Northeast  (25-15, 18-25, 25-17) as Ponca earned a fifth place finish thanks to a sweep over Lyons-Decatur Northeast (25-19, 25-20).

In the Wakefield loss against Lyons-Decatur Northeast, Alli Brown recorded a double-double with 10 kills and 10 digs along with two blocks while Avila also had a double-double with 10 assists and 11 digs to go along with six kills.

Andrade added five kills, four digs and two blocks (one solo), Boston Brown had four kills and 10 digs as Keagle (one dig/two blocks) and Rivera (one dig/two blocks, one solo) both tacked on two kills. Other digs came from Riewer (10).

Boston Brown posted five service aces; Avila followed with two aces as Andrade, Keagle and Alli Brown all had an ace.

From the bracket loss for Wakefield with Lutheran High Northeast, three double-doubles led the way starting from Alli Brown with 16 kills and 12 digs; Avila (eight kills) had 18 digs and 12 assists as well as Boston Brown (eight kills) added 21 assists and 12 digs.

Keagle followed with six kills, eight digs and one block; Andrade tacked on two kills and 16 digs as sophomore Natalee Nelson tallied one kill. Other digs came from Riewer (14) and Rivera (one).

Andrade, Keagle and Riewer all finished with two service aces as Boston Brown added an ace.

From the championship bracket, first matches went to LCC over Cedar Catholic (25-20, 25-18) and Pierce over Tekamah-Herman (25-14, 25-18) both sweeps. Cedar Catholic earned a third place finish thanks to a three set victory over Tekamah-Herman (24-26, 25-17, 25-16) as Pierce won the Wakefield Invite following a sweep over Laurel-Concord-Coleridge (25-20, 25-20) who finished runner-up and saw a nine-match win streak come to an end falling to 9-2.

During the LCC victory over Cedar Catholic, Rasmussen (seven digs/three blocks, two solo), Erwin (five digs/two blocks) and Eriksen (nine digs) all had six kills. Kvols posted 17 assists, one kill and two digs.

Senior Lainey Schutte added three kills, six digs and one block. Other digs came from Recob (three) and Graf (two).

Erwin and Schutte both had a service ace.

In the LCC loss with Pierce, Rasmussen recorded 10 kills, eight digs and one block as Kvols posted 16 assists, six digs and one kill.

Erwin followed with five kills and six digs; Recob tallied three kills, one dig and one block; Eriksen tacked on two kills, seven digs and one block as Schutte posted one kill, four digs and one block. Other digs came from Graf (six).
