Wakefield volleyball splits conference tournament pool matches

Following a first round loss in the East Husker Conference Tournament last Thursday, Wakefield was placed in Pool B for a pair of Saturday triangular matches.

From Lyons-Decatur Northeast High School, #11 Wakefield joined #9 Tekamah-Herman and the host #10 Lyons-Decatur Northeast.

Wakefield suffered a three-set loss against Tekamah-Herman (17-25, 25-19, 23-25) and swept Lyons-Decatur Northeast (25-19, 25-19).

The Trojans are now 11-17 on the season.

During the victory over Lyons-Decatur Northeast, senior Alli Brown recorded 11 kills and three digs as sophomore Boston Brown posted 21 assists, eight digs, one kill and one block. Senior Isabella Andrade also had eight digs along with one kill.

Junior Gracyn Keagle followed with eight kills and four digs as junior Sierra Kaufman added three kills and two digs. Other digs came from junior Ashlyn Riewer (seven) and freshman Rihanna Rivera (one).

Kaufman finished with three service aces; Alli Brown and Andrade both tallied two aces as Boston Brown had an ace.

East Husker Conference semifinal, consolation and finals were played at Oakland-Craig on Saturday.

#1 Clarkson/Leigh swept #5 Stanton (25-17, 25-20) while #2 Oakland-Craig swept #3 Humphrey-Lindsay (25-15, 25-19).

In the consolation round, Stanton swept Humphrey-Lindsay (25-22, 25-23).

The EHC championship match favored Clarkson/Leigh winning in five sets over Oakland-Craig (14-25, 25-14, 17-25, 29-27, 16-14).
