Wakefield wins twice at Tri County Northeast

Following home competition earlier in the week, the Wakefield girls and boys basketball teams began a back-to-back on the road.

From Emerson-Hubbard High School, Wakefield visited Tri County Northeast (Allen/Emerson-Hubbard) on Friday.

The Wakefield girls won 39-33 while the Wakefield boys picked up a 75-52 victory against the host Wolfpack.

In the girls game, Tri County Northeast led 7-5 after the opening quarter as Wakefield then used a 5-2 second advantage to lead 10-9 at the break. The host Wolfpack jumped ahead thanks to a 19-9 third but the Trojans answered with a 20-5 fourth. Final favored Wakefield winning 39-33 to snap a five-game losing streak improving to 3-12 as Tri County Northeast fell to 5-12 dropping their seventh straight.

Wakefield leaders were sophomore Montse Avila with 15 points followed by sophomore Boston Brown with 10 points.

Other scoring came from junior Ashlyn Riewer with eight points, senior Allie Brown tallied four points as senior Isabella Andrade scored two points.

Tri County Northeast was led in scoring by sophomore Joslyn Mackling with 18 points as sophomore Briley Anderson added nine points.

During the boys outing, Wakefield held an 18-14 first quarter lead before adding to their lead with a 20-9 second quarter to go up 38-23 at half. Both teams scored 13 points in the third quarter as the Trojans won the fourth, 24-16. Final favored Wakefield winning 75-52 to 7-7 winning their fourth straight as the Wolfpack fell to 3-13 dropping back-to-back.

Wakefield leaders were junior Cael Johnson with 25 points, junior Jacob Borg added 22 points as senior Jesse Lundahl followed with 17 points.

Other scoring came from junior Jacob Birkley with seven points as two-point scoring came from junior Brandon Paredes and senior Timothy Kaufman.

Tri County Northeast was led by senior Ben Jorgensen with 17 points, junior Thatcher Lamp followed with 12 points as sophomore Landyn Servine added 10 points.
