It was another busy week for both Wayne Post 43 and Wakefield Post 81 Ameican legion basaeball teams. All four teams will open Ralph Bishop League tourney play with games June 28 - 29.
Wayne Juniors win at Hooper-Scribner
A single road outing was on the docket for Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 on June 23.
From Hooper, the Post 43 Juniors secured a 14-1 victory at Hooper-Scribner. Wayne is now 11-2 on the season.
During the Juniors only contest, Parker Patefield singled three times, tripled, drove in three runs and scored; Jaxson Kneifl singled, doubled, drove in a run and scored three times as Chase Nelson doubled and scored twice. James Birkel also singled twice, drove in a run and scored.
Aiden Peterson singled, drove in a run and scored twice; Reece Ames and Brodey Munter both singled, drove in a run and scored; Easton Endicott singled and scored twice; Chase Sturm accounted for a RBI as Blake Smith scored.
Camden Hall (68 pitches) picked up the complete game win in five innings allowing an earned run off three hits while striking out five batters, walking one and hitting one.
Next up for Post 43 American Legion baseball was a road doubleheader at Arlington where the Wayne Juniors won 10-0 on June 25 to improve to 12-2 while the Seniors game was canceled after Wayne was leading 3-0 in the bottom of the first inning due to weather. Pending June 26 field conditions in Pierce, Wayne will looke to make a previous rain out from June 2 at Pierce at 5:30/8 p.m.
Wakefield Legion splits home doubleheader
After playing a combined five games in two days in Creighton, the Wakefield Post 81 American Legion baseball program went back to work with a June 23 twin bill.
From Eaton Field in Wakefield, the Post 81 Seniors (7-9) won 4-2 while the Wakefield Juniors (4-8) dropped a 14-5 decision against Arlington. Including games on June 20, Post 81 played nine games in four days.
During the Seniors outing, Jacob Birkley singled twice and drove in a run while Turner Thompson singled twice and scored.
Ruben Vega singled and scored; Jesse Lundahl singled; Adrian Flores accounted for a RBI and run scored as Tanner Thompson scored.
Lundahl (105 pitches) picked up the win in six and two-thirds allowing two earned runs off 10 hits while striking out nine batters and walking two. Cael Johnson (3) closed out the final third of an inning.
In the Juniors contest, Tanner Thompson singled twice, drove in a run and scored twice as Matthew Metzler singled twice and scored.
Jacob Birkley singled and scored twice as Vega accounted for a RBI.
Benny Palma (100 pitches) suffered the loss in three innings allowing eight earned runs off five hits while striking out five batters and walking nine.
Vega (40) worked an inning allowing three earned runs off one hit while striking out one batter and walking five. Drake McAfee (36) closed out the final inning allowing three earned runs off one hit while striking out two batters and walking four.
Ahead of the Ralph Bishop League Tournament starting June 28 - 29, the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors and Seniors were also scheduled to host Tekamah-Herman on June 25 but the games were canceled due to weather.
Wakefield Post 81 represented during Berry Pepper Tourney
Both Wakefield Post 81 Senior and Junior American Legion baseball teams were in action over the weekend during the Berry Pepper Tourney in Creighton.
The Post 81 Seniors began the weekend on Saturday with a 2-1 loss to the Tri County Titans followed by Sunday losses of 8-6 against Wagner and 13-7 to the host Creighton. The Wakefield Seniors are now 6-9 on the season.
Wakefield Senior leaders were Tanner Thompson (three singles, two doubles) with five hits while Adrian Flores (two singles, two doubles) and Mason Lamprecht (three singles, one double) both added four hits. Flores and Turner Thompson each accounted for three runs batted in as Tanner Thompson crossed the plate a team-high four times.
Lamprecht (95 pitches) pitched six innings starting one game. He allowed two runs (one earned) off four hits while striking out 10 batters and walking two.

On Saturday, the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors began with an 18-2 win over the host Creighton followed by a 16-5 loss to Albion in the consolation round. The Wakefield Juniors are now 4-7 on the season.
Wakefield Junior leaders from Saturday were Jacob Birkley (two singles, one double) and Tristan Connell (two singles, one double) both with three hits. Turner Thompson drove in a team-high four runs as Tanner Thompson, Matthew Metzler and Connell all crossed the plate five times.
Birkley (75 pitches) pitched four innings starting one game. He allowed two earned runs off five hits while striking out six batters and walking one.
Connell (74 pitches) worked two and two-thirds appearing in one game. He allowed eight runs (five earned) off four hits while striking out one batter, walking four and hitting three.

Following Wednesday night home legion baseball, Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 took to the road on June 20.
From Crofton, the Wayne Post 43 Seniors picked up a 9-0 win to improve to 14-1 as the Wayne Post 43 Juniors won 12-0 to now sit 10-2 on the season.
During the Seniors outing, Gavin Redden singled twice, tripled, drove in a run and scored twice; Hayden Kelley singled, doubled and drove in a run as Gavin Anderson singled, doubled and drove in four runs.
Ethan Synovec singled, drove in two runs and scored; Alex Rodriguez and Jaxson Kneifl both singled and scored twice as Kaleb Moormeier scored.
Synovec (92 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout victory in six innings allowing four hits while striking out 12 batters and walking two.
From the Juniors contest, Chase Nelson singled twice, doubled twice and scored three times while James Birkel singled twice and drove in four runs.

Ahead of a weekend with multiple games for the Wakefield American Legion baseball program, Post 81 traveled to Pierce.
The June 20 doubleheader favored the Wakefield Post 81 Seniors winning 7-6 to improve at the time to 6-6 while the Wakefield Post 81 Juniors took control winning 20-5 to then sit 3-6 on the season.
During the Seniors outing, Jesse Lundahl singled, tripled, drove in a run and scored while Matthew Metzler doubled, drove in a run and scored.
Mason Lamprect singled, drove in a run and scored; Adrian Flores singled and scored twice; Turner Thompson singled and drove in a run; Jacob Birkley and Cael Johnson both singled and scored as Tanner Thompson singled.
Johnson (53 pitches) picked up the win in three and two-thirds of relief allowing an earned run off four hits while striking out two batter and walking three.

Redden fans 10 for Wayne Seniors, Juniors hold off late rally
It was right back to Ralph Bishop League regular season action for Rolling Hills Supply Wayne Post 43 on June 18 hosting Hartington.
From Hank Overin Field in Wayne, the Post 43 Seniors won 8-1 to improve to 13-1 while the Wayne Juniors held off a late comeback picking up a 6-5 victory to now sit 9-2 on the season.
During the Seniors contest, Hartington led 1-0 through three and a half innings until Wayne plated three runs in the third and five in the fourth.
Drew Reinhardt singled twice, doubled and drove in a run; Hayden Kelley singled twice, drove in three runs and scored twice; Ethan Synovec doubled, drove in two runs and scored twice as Kaleb Moormeier doubled and scored twice.
Gavin Redden singled, drove in a run and scored; Adrian Contreras singled and scored as Alex Rodriguez accounted for a RBI.

Wakefield Seniors capitalize on complete game from Lundahl, Juniors fall
Mid-week Post 81 American Legion baseball was on the docket during a June 18 doubleheader.
From Eaton Field in Wakefield, Post 81 entertained Crofton.
The Wakefield Seniors plated single runs late to win 2-0 improving to 5-6 while the Post 81 Juniors dropped a 12-3 decision to Crofton falling to 2-6. The Post 81 Juniors trailed 6-3 entering the fifth before giving up six runs.
In the Seniors outing, Adrian Flores singled and drove in a run while Jacob Birkley singled.
Tanner Thompson accounted for a RBI as Matthew Metzler and Ruben Vega both scored.
Jesse Lundahl (95 pitches) picked up the complete game shutout victory in seven innings allowing three hits while striking out seven batters and walking two.
During the Juniors contest, Vega singled and scored as Will Benson singled. Tanner Thompson and Tristan Connell also scored.
Connell (108 pitches) suffered the loss in four and two-thirds allowing nine runs (four earned) off six hits while striking out two batters, walking five and hitting four.
Drake McAfee (21) didn't record an out allowing three earned runs while walking three batters and hitting one. Vega (10) closed out the final third of an inning walking and hitting one batter each.
