In a rescheduled road dual from Jan. 21, the Wayne High girls and boys bowling teams closed out their regular season on the final day of January.
From Maplewood Lanes in Omaha, Wayne visited Omaha Christian Academy.
The Wayne girls picked up a 21-0 match victory while the Blue Devil boys also won 21-0.
Head Wayne High bowling coach Josh Johnson said, “It was really great to see the bowling teams find their groove and bowl well on Friday. They were steady across the lanes. We had a few people get the split bug but all in all we got done what we needed to heading into Districts. Now season two starts (the postseason) and we need to stay supportive, positive and upbeat and everything else will take care of itself.”
In the girls division, the Blue Devils got off to a good start and maintained solid play throughout both games. Wayne picked up a lot of spares and got some strikes and pulled away for a 816-519 pinfall victory. Madi Janke / McKaeya Becker, Regan Fernau / Rylin Hall, Sammi Gubbels, Graycen Trautman and Lindsay Niemann all won their individual matches.
Game two found Wayne continuing the steady play and again picking up a lot of spares and keeping the pressure on Omaha Christian. Wayne pulled away in the end with a 853-500 pinfall victory. Madi Janke, Regan Fernau / Rylin Hall, Sammi Gubbels, Graycen Trautman / McKaeya Becker and Lindsay Niemann all won their individual matches in game two highlighted by Sammi Gubbels high score of 204.
The Blue Devil girls would go on to win the Baker game 156-85 and would go on to win the overall match 21-0.
During the boys division, the Blue Devils came out red hot. Wayne did a better job picking up spares and was able to put some strikes together. Game one was highlighted by Aiden Petersen’s 276 high game. The Blue Devils’ hot play pushed the pinfall victory to 1113-533. The team score of 1113 is the second highest in school history. Winning games in game one were Ben Haschke, Blake Smith, Dylan Jensen, Konnor Kai and Aiden Petersen.
In game two, the Blue Devils worked on some different lineups and matchups trying to get themselves ready for Districts next week. Wayne was unable to put a bunch of strikes together and some caught the split bug, but were able to win the pinfall match 920 – 591. Winning matches in game two were Jaden Dramse, Blake Smith / Alex Rodriguez, Dylan Jensen / Ben Haschke, Konnor Kai and Aiden Petersen.
Wayne would go on to win the Baker game 192-144 and take the match 21-0.
Wayne JV was also able to bowl in an intrasquad match. where the JV bowlers were able to get three games in. Scoring for the JV was Carlyle Young (105, 110 & 162), Mahlik Campbell (92, 125 & 76), Tyler Johnson (191, 177 & 135), Lucas Allemann (148, 122 & 119), Madi Korth (140, 129 & 109), Lilliana Culy (90, 129 & 73) and Marie Allemann (137, 146 & 124). The Wayne JV bowlers were highlighted by some great bowling by Zane Sievers who really found the line in games two and three. Sievers’ scores were 148, 256 & 269. This ends the season for the JV Blue Devil bowlers.
