For the fifth time in less than a month, the Wayne High bowling teams were on their home lanes.

From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Blue Devils entertained Hartington-Newcastle on Saturday.

The Wayne High girls won 21-0 while the Blue Devil boys won 15.5-5.5 over the visiting Wildcats.

In the girls contest, Wayne got off to a good start and were able to finish strong.  Wayne won game one’s pinfall match 807-541.  Game one individual winners were Madi Janke (171), Regan Fernau / McKaeya Becker (132), Sammi Gubbels (143), Graycen Trautman (161) and Lindsay Niemann (200).

The Blue Devil girls would pick up where they left off in game one.  Wayne would pick up their spares and pull away for a 875-579 pinfall win.  Winning individual matches for the Blue Devils were Madi Janke (135), Regan Fernau (173), Sammi Gubbels (204), Graycen Trautman / Rylin Hall (156) and Lindsay Niemann (207).

Wayne would go on to win the Baker game 184-137 and the overall match 21-0.

Wayne bowling head coach Josh Johnson said, “the girls had their ups and downs a bit but were able to weather the storm. They continue to get better each day and really are having fun with each other.  Girls have a tough match up on Thursday against Howells-Dodge and they will need their ‘A’ game.”

During the boys outing, Wayne started the match against the Wildcats well.  The Blue Devils struggled to find strikes but did cover most of the spares.  The Wayne boys had to fight the lack of carry and putting strikes together.  The Blue Devils fought through it and won the pinfall total 957-770.  Winning matches for Wayne were Jamison Meyer (200), Aiden Petersen (193), Konnor Kai (191) and Dylan Jensen (180).  Ben Haschke (193) tied his match.

Game two was another challenge for the boys to put strikes together.  Spares became the name of the game and the Blue Devils were again able to win the pinfall match 902-710.  All 5 bowlers won their matches in game two to take a 15.5-.5 lead after two games.  Winning individual matches were Konnor Kai (196), Aiden Petersen (184), Ben Haschke (178), Jaden Dramse (173) and Jamison Meyer / Blake Smith (171).

In the baker game, the Wildcats would get a timely turkey in the middle of the game to pull ahead and would hold on in the end 188-180 but  Wayne won the overall match 15.5 – 5.5.

Coach Johnson added, “the boys struggled today (Saturday) with the oil pattern but it was good to see them battle through a little adversity.  They worked hard for everything but didn’t back down.  If they can stay positive and continue to encourage each other, good things will happen.”

The Wayne High girls and boys bowling teams will next host Howells-Dodge on Thursday, January 16.
