Following a trio of road duals and a road invite, it was time for Wayne High to showcase their home lanes on back-to-back days.
From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Blue Devils welcomed Thurston-Cuming (co-op of Bancroft-Rosalie, Pender and Lyons-Decatur Northeast) on Friday.
The Wayne girls and boys made quick work by both winning 21-0 over Thurston-Cuming County.
In girls competition, Wayne bowled consistent throughout game one marking in most of the frames.
The Blue Devils continued to put the heat on the visiting Thunder and pulled away for a 797-586 pinfall victory. All five girls would win their individual matches including Madi Janke (190), Regan Fernau (152), Sammi Gubbels (150), Graycen Trautman (152) and Lindsay Niemann / Rylin Hall (153).
Game two found Wayne continuing their steady play. Wayne would pull away for a 810-583 pinfall victory. Winning individual matches in game two for the Lady Blue Devils were Madi Janke (160), Regan Fernau (182), Sammi Gubbels (143), Graycen Trautman / Rylin Hall (136) and Lindsay Niemann (189).
Wayne would go on to win the Baker game 169-116 and again would defeat the Thunder 21-0.
Head coach Josh Johnson said, “girls played well tonight (Friday). They were able to continue to stay steady from top to bottom. All varsity girls continue to grow and are getting better each day. Each game someone is stepping up.”
During boys action, the solid bowling by the Blue Devils would continue throughout the game and Wayne would win game one’s pinfall count 1027-632. Wayne would win all five individual matches. Winning matches for Wayne were Dylan Jensen (201), Jamison Meyer (211), Jaden Dramse (211), Konnor Kai / Alex Rodriguez (178) and Aiden Petersen (226).
Game two, the Blue Devils started off a bit sluggish and had to fight the transitioning oil. The Blue Devils would continue to struggle to find the pocket consistently but would find a way to keep the Thunder at bay. Wayne would win game two’s pinfall count 933-549. Winning individual matches for Wayne were Dylan Jensen (169), Jamison Meyer (158), Jaden Dramse (185), Konnor Kai / Alex Rodriguez (181) and Aiden Petersen (240).
Wayne would go on to win the Baker game 222-118 and again would win the overall match against the Thunder 21-0.
Coach Johnson added, “boys struggled a bit tonight (Friday) as the oil broke down and transitioned. They continued to battle and move. I was impressed how they got the job done even without bowling their best as a group.”
The Wayne High JV also played in intra-squad competition. Scoring for Wayne boys in the JV portion of the match were Blake Smith (177, 157, 181), Zane Sievers (158, 190, 195), Mahlik Campbell (66, 133, 78), Brodrick Tietdke (137, 178, 156), Carlyle Young (113, 122, 129), Lucas Allemann (136, 151, 127), and Tyler Johnson (126, 109, 107).
Scoring for the Wayne girls in the JV portion of the match were Marie Allemann (144, 114, 148, 102), Madi Korth (131, 65, 92, 101), Samantha Wright (77, 124, 90, 113), Rylee Durant (89, 65), Lilliana Culy (79, 76, 77, 94).
Coach Johnson mentioned. “the JV teams are really coming along quickly. It is so fun to watch them get better each day. They are really starting to figure things out. This group just needs to keep practicing and getting more consistent and the pins will fall.”
