Tuesday night marked postseason basketball for the Wayne boys.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, #1 Wayne opened postseason play against #5 Pierce during the C1-5 Subdistrict semifinal.
Wayne High used enough scoring in the fourth to pull away with a 41-22 victory.
Just last Friday, Wayne won 49-37 at Pierce.
On Tuesday, Wayne regained the lead late in the first quarter up 9-7 before adding to their lead with an 8-2 second quarter to go up 17-9 at the half. The Blue Devils then outscored Pierce, 7-5 in the third and 17-8 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne winning 41-22 to win back-to-back improving to 20-5 as the Bluejays end their season at 10-15.
Wayne High was led in scoring by senior Colson Nelsen with 13 points (8-8 FT) while sophomore Jaxson Kneifl knocked down four three’s to total 12 points.
Other scoring came from senior Gavin Redden with seven points, junior Jace Jorgensen followed with five points (5-6 FT) as two-point scoring came from senior Kaden Keller and junior Drew Reinhardt.
The Blue Devils shot 13-14 from the foul line.
Pierce leaders were junior Keaton Frazier with 12 points as sophomore Kendall Shada tallied for points. Three-point scoring came from senior Payton Cederburg and junior Brock Collison.
The Bluejays finished 3-8 at the charity stripe.
The other semifinal favored #2 Boys Town (13-10) winning 70-45 over #3 Winnebago (12-13).
The C1-5 Subdistrict final will feature #1 Wayne vs. #2 Boys Town at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday.
This will mark a rematch from Jan. 18 at Boys Town where the Cowboys won in double overtime over Wayne, 56-52.
