Championship Saturday showcased six basketball games during the Mid State Conference Tournament where the Wayne boys closed out the night in the finals.
Back at Cedar Catholic High School in Hartington, the evening concluded with a battle between Wayne and Boone Central in the boys championship game.
Earlier this season, Wayne won a 74-39 home contest over Boone Central on January 11.
On Saturday, the Wayne boys suffered a 58-56 loss against Boone Central.
During the boys final, Wayne built a 17-7 first quarter lead as the Cardinals answered with a 16-11 second quarter. WHS led 28-23 at half. Boone Central outscored the Blue Devils, 21-20 in the third and 14-8 in the fourth. Final favored Boone Central winning 58-56 to improve to 13-7 picking up their fifth straight victory as the Blue Devils fell to 18-3 having a five-game winning streak snapped.
Senior Colson Nelsen surpassed 1,000 points in his career posting a team-high 27 points for Wayne on five made three-point baskets to go along with four assists.
Other scoring came from senior Kaden Keller with nine points and eight rebounds, junior Drew Reinhardt (four assists/two blocks) and sophomore Jaxson Kneifl both scored six points, junior Brodey Munter added five points as senior Gavin Redden scored three points and seven rebounds.
The Blue Devils finished 4-5 from the foul line (all from Nelsen).
