Wayne boys finish runner-up thanks to six medalists led by champion Grant Maas; host Trojans finish 13th

With the girls in action for district competition over the weekend, the Wayne boys wrestling team competed with several other northeast Nebraska programs during the Wakefield Invite.

From Wakefield, the Trojans welcomed 16 other teams during the Wakefield Invite on Saturday.

The Wayne High boys finished second with 119.5 points among their 15 wrestlers while the host Wakefield boys placed 13th with 39.5 points among their five wrestlers.

West Point-Beemer won the Wakefield Invite with 132.5 points, again Wayne followed in runner-up (119.5), Millard South took third (118), Randolph placed fourth (115.5) and Arlington rounded out the top five teams with 96 points.

The Wayne boys were led by a first place finish from Grant Maas (150) while Ethan Gregory (120), Will Leseberg (126) and Maddox Ziska (285) all followed in second. Grady Maas (106) and Taven Ocampo (157) both placed fourth.

Other scoring came from Noah Magnuson (132), Thomas Raymndo (138), Ty Zach (144) and Zander Liston (165) as Alvaro Archundia (113), Trecyn Ocampo (132), Weston Patefield (138), Daevin Casarrubia (144) and Samueal Leseberg (157) were also in action.

The Wakefield boys were led by Domingo Centino (144) in third.

Other scoring came from Lane Fischer (138), Ruben Vega (150) and Landon Ryion (157) as Baldwin Garcia (106) was also in action.

NSAA Boys District wrestling will get underway on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 14 – 15.

Wayne will compete in the B-2 District hosted by Central City on Feb. 15; Wakefield will be at Tekamah-Herman for the C-2 District on Feb. 15 while Winside will travel to Central Valley High School for the D-3 District from Feb. 14 – 15.
