Wayne boys golf fill up leaderboard

After having their season opening golf outing postponed from March 31 to this Thursday, the Wayne High boys golf team began the spring campaign on the road.

From the Oakland Golf Club in Oakland, the Blue Devil boys sent their varsity team and two full JV teams up against Oakland-Craig on Tuesday during a nine-hole outing.

According to the Wayne website, the event was listed as a dual but Wisner-Pilger joined to make it a triangular totaling 27 golfers in which 16 were from Wayne.

The Wayne varsity boys posted a team score of 204 to lead the two other varsity teams. Wisner-Pilger followed in runner-up with a 247 as Oakland-Craig finished with a 296.

Individual leaders for the Blue Devils came from senior Colson Nelsen and sophomore Landon Sharer tying for first with a 50 while sophomore Dylan Jensen followed in third with a 51 and junior Mason Karsky tied for fourth with a 53. Junior Carter Wiese also provided a top 10 finish tied for eighth (57).

Wayne JV 1 finished with a 218 along with a second full Wayne JV team scoring a 235.

On Wayne JV 1, sophomore Maddux Heithold and freshman Theo Claussen both tied for fourth (53); senior Jake Barner took seventh (55) and freshman Hunter Nolte tied for eighth (57).

Leading the way for the second Blue Devil JV team, senior Brayden Woehler and sophomore Jacson Chase both also tied for eighth (57).

The Wayne High boys golf team will next compete in the rescheduled West Point-Beemer Invite in Beemer on Thursday, April 10.
