Ahead of home Mid State Conference competition taking over the Wayne High boys basketball schedule, WHS traveled to Omaha for non-conference action.
From Boys Town, the Blue Devils and Cowboys went to work on Saturday.
The Wayne High boys dropped a double overtime outing of 56-52 at Boys Town.
Wayne took the early 13-5 advantage in the first quarter before Boys Town answered back with a 10-6 second quarter. WHS led 19-15 at the half. Boys Town then took control in the third with a 17-7 advantage as the Blue Devils countered with a 14-8 to tie the game at 40-40. Both teams scored six points in the first overtime as Boys Town followed with a 10-6 second overtime. Final favored Boys Town winning 56-52 in double overtime to improve to 8-4 as the Blue Devils fell to 13-2.
Wayne High leaders were sophomore Jaxson Kneifl with 17 points on four made three’s while junior Jace Jorgensen added nine points and seven rebounds.
Other scoring came from senior Colson Nelsen with eight points and three assists, seniors Gavin Redden (four steals) and Kaden Keller (three assists) both tallied seven points as junior Drew Reinhardt tacked on four points.
