Wayne brings home three medals from state track

OMAHA -- Wayne High senior Brooklyn Kruse ended her high school career on a good note and freshman Elle Powicki got hers off to a good start at the Nebraska State Track and Field Championships.

The two Blue Devil girls earned medals to highlight the Wayne effort during the two-day competition at Burke Stadium, accounting for all 15 of Wayne's team points that left them just outside the top 10 in the Class B team race.

On Wednesday, Kruse's final throw was good enough for runner-up honors in the discus, as her best mark of 135 feet, 5 inches, left her with the silver medal.

Kruse followed that up Thursday with a third-place finish in the shot put, hitting a best mark of 41-10 to finish third.

Powicki came in with the fourth fastest mark in the 100-meter hurdle preliminaries to earn a spot in the final Thursday, where she finished eighth in a time of 15.90 seconds to come away with an eighth-place medal.
