Wayne businesses conducting 'Hunger Games' food drive

Jen Claussen, owner of Swans Apparel and Swans for Men, wanted to do something for Giving Tuesday, held annually the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

"I was looking for an opportunity to do something positive for the community and decided to do a food drive for the Wayne Food Pantry. Also, I wanted it to be more than just one day," Claussen said.

She then decided to connect the food drive to the fact that the movie "The Hunger Games: Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes" will be showing at the Majestic Theatre the next two weekends.

A total of nine "districts" are participating in the food drive.

District 1 is Swans Apparel and Swans for Men; District 2 is Refind and Refresh; District 3 is Bloom & Grace; District 4 is I Wet My Plants; District 5 is Aquapop; District 6 is Bubba's Baggage; District 7 is IKT Boutique; District 8 is Hippie Chicken Smoke Shop and District 9 is Nana's This & That.

Food donations can be made through Saturday, Dec. 2 and each donation will allow the giver to be entered into a drawing for a gift certificate to The Majestic Theatre.

"In addition, each of the participating districts is running their own promotion. Those donating could be entered into drawings for gift baskets, or receive a discount on their purchase or receive coupons for future purchases," Claussen said. "There is no limit to the number of districts anyone can donate food to and therefore be entered into multiple drawings or receive multiple discounts."

In addition, the group has created a Facebook event that lists additional information about the event.

After the food is collected, one of the districts will be declared the winner with bragging rights for the coming year.
