Several members of the Wayne Wrestling Club began their season this past weekend during the Rumble at Rice.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, the Wayne Wrestling Club showcased 25 youth wrestlers on Sunday. There were 51 programs represented with scoring.
In the team race, the Wayne Wrestling Club edged League of Heroes (16 wrestlers) 325 to 321 in total match points. Duncan Wrestling Club (12) took third with 172 points, Pierce Warbirds (12) placed fourth with 170 points and Wisner Gators (nine) rounded out the top five teams with 162 points.
First place girls results came from Norah Garvin (3rd-4th 56-62) and Alexandria Ziska (7th-8th 152-155) while a runner-up finish was posted by Elaine Hunter (3rd-4th 75-80).
First place boys results came from Weston Nelson (3rd-4th 76-79) and Dominic Surber (5th-6th 145-155).
Runner-up finishes were posted by Logan Trautman (1st-2nd 53-57); Bentlee Nelson (3rd-4th 66-67); Ryan Magnuson (3rd-4th 79-80); Mason Nelson (5th-6th 78-83); Ryan Loberg (5th-6th 100-106); Kirby Gubbels (5th-6th 125-128) and Isaiah Zarate (7th-8th 115-120).
Club officials are still finalizing their next competition but they did share the Wayne Wrestling Club Tournament will be Feb. 9.
