Wayne, county residents make decisions at the polls

Voters in both the city of Wayne and in Wayne County made their voices known during Tuesday's primary election.

In all, 2,079 ballots were casting, making for just over 40% of the eligible voters taking part in this election.

In regard to the vote on whether or not to implement a one-half cent city sales and use tax, the vote was 545 against and 313 votes for the tax.

In the race for Wayne County Commissioner for District 2, Incumbent Dean Burbach retained his seat. He received a total of 243 votes to challenger Dwaine Junck's 222.

In the race for Legislative District 17, which includes all of Wayne County, Thurston County, Dakota County and portions of Dixon County, voters in Wayne County cast 726 votes for Mike Albrecht; 724 votes for Glen Meyer and 485 votes for Cindy Kai.

District-wide, Albrecht received 4,674 votes; Meyer received 1,327 votes and Kai received 1,111 votes.

The two top vote getters will move on to the General Election in November.

Wayne County voters followed the state trend by voting for Joseph R. Biden, Jr. for the Democratic presidential nomination and Donald J. Trump for the Republican nomination.

All vote totals are unofficial at this time as the canvasing board will meet at 1:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 16 in the lower level of the courthouse.
