The Northeast Nebraska Public Health Department has announced that Wayne County, Wayne, NE has been selected to participate in the National Health and Nutrition Examination survey (NHANES).

NHANES assesses the health and nutritional status of adults and children in the U.S. It is unique because it uses both interviews and physical exams to collect data to address medical issues in Wayne County. For instance, children’s growth charts are based on data from NHANES, and NHANES data has helped understand the prevalence of obesity and diabetes across the nation.

NHANES findings also help Northeast Nebraska Public Health address important health issues such as chronic disease, men’s health, diabetes, and mental health. This survey is one of the best sources of public health data available, with the ability to compare data on a year-to-year basis for dozens of important health outcomes. Information provided through NHANES allows Northeast Nebraska Public Health and its partners to provide services that will prevent disease and promote a healthy living style.
