Wayne County Sheriff's Office investigates traffic fatality

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a two-vehicle traffic collision in southwest Wayne County on Feb. 5.

The accident took place on Highway 35 near mile marker 9 at approximately 8:10 a.m. that morning. 

According to Wayne County Sheriff Jason Dwinell, an eastbound vehicle collided with a westbound semi-truck.  The impact caused the vehicle to enter the north ditch.

The driver of the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene, due to injuries received during the collision. The driver of the semi was transported to Faith Regional Health Services and released.

One of the vehicles was driven by a juvenile; her name will not be released.

The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by Norfolk Fire and Rescue, the Nebraska State Patrol, and the NDOT.

The collision remains under investigation.
