Area track and field athletes came away with 17 medals and Wayne dominated the long jump in the 24th annual Norfolk Track and Field Classic Thursday at Norfolk High School.
Kylie Hammer led the area medal haul with four medals, including a meet record with her win in the long jump, eclipsing the old mark by a quarter-inch with her winning jump of 18 feet, 2 1/2 inches. She also took runner-up honors in the triple jump and finished third in both the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
Cody Rogers was also a double medalist for Wayne, finishing fourth in both the triple jump and long jump. Teammate Mason Lee won the long jump, tying the school record with his best effort of 22 feet, 10 inches.
Gabi Meyer earned a third in the girls 800-meter run for Wayne, Jack Evetovich tied for third in the boys highjump, while Masyn Dorey and Jenna Trenhaile both finished fifth in the pole vault and discus, respectively.
Wakefield brought home five medals from the Classic. Israel Gardea finished fifth in the shot put, brothers Solomon and Gabe Peitz earned sixth-place medals in the triple jump and 800-meter run, the 3,200-meter relay team finished third and the 400-meter relay team placed sixth.
