Wayne drops four set match at Mid State Conference

Mid State Conference volleyball tournament action concluded their second round of play on Tuesday.

Following a Monday play-in loss, #9 Wayne and #7 Ponca played one last tournament match on Tuesday in Pierce.

After splitting the opening sets, Ponca picked up the four set victory. Both teams are now 13-16 on the season.

Scores of the match favored the Indians 25-12, 15-25, 25-20, 25-22.

Also in Pierce, round two loser’s bracket matches were held for the Mid State Conference. #5 GACC swept #8 Cedar Catholic (25-19, 25-13, 25-17) while #10 O’Neill won in four sets over #6 Boone Central (25-22, 25-12, 23-25, 25-23).

Norfolk Catholic hosted the winner’s bracket. #4 Crofton won in five sets over #1 Norfolk Catholic (23-25, 9-25, 25-22, 25-23, 15-13) as #2 Pierce won in four sets over #3 Battle Creek (30-28, 25-22, 19-25, 25-21).

Norfolk Catholic will host the Mid State Conference championship round on Thursday, Oct. 24. The fifth place match will open the day at 4:30 p.m. with #5 GACC vs. #10 O’Neill, followed by the third place match of #1 Norfolk Catholic vs. #3 Battle Creek and the Mid State Conference finals will showcase #2 Pierce vs. #4 Crofton. Due to gym ‘issues’, Wayne was unable to host their Tuesday and Thursday matches.

Wayne High will await their Class C1 region assignment with records through Tuesday night being calculated. Postseason play begins next week.
