Wayne First United Methodist Church celebrates 125 years of its sanctuary

Posted

The members of Wayne First United Methodist Church invite the community to join us on Saturday, Oct. 17 and Sunday, Oct. 18 for a weekend of events celebrating a significant milestone in the church’s history: the 125th anniversary of its sanctuary.

The sanctuary and bell tower at 516 Main Street have been a solid, steady and consistent presence in Wayne for more than a century. It has been a place of worship and fellowship that has served generations of people in the Wayne community, all for the glory of God.

While the church’s current building was dedicated in the fall of 1901, the congregation traces its beginnings to 1881 when a small group of dedicated Christians gathered to establish what would become First Methodist Church.
