Wayne girl grapplers grab first-ever team title

The Wayne High girls wrestling team brought home two individual champions and eight medalists helped the team win the team’s first championship Friday at the Plainview Invitational.

Essynce Owens-Webb (100) and Nyla Bolles (125) both claimed first-place medals to lead the Blue Devil charge. Owens-Webb won all three of her matches by fall while Bolles had a pair of first-period pins to claim top honors.

Runner-up finishes were earned by Raegan Maas at 110 pounds and Kadence Rees at 155 pounds. Megan Magnuson finished third at 120 pounds, while Yessenia Alba (110), Edmy Balux (115) and Anna Naeve (145) all finished fourth.

Wayne won the 15-team tournament with 126 points, eight better than runner-up Lyons-Decatur Northeast.
