Wayne girl grapplers seventh at Winnebago

In what is considered a barometer for the state tournament in February, Wayne High’s girls wrestlers earned five medals and came away with a seventh-place finish Friday at the Winnebago Invitational.

Eight of the 10 Blue Devils competing won at least one match and five came away with medals for finishing in the top six of their brackets.

Essynce Owens-Webb led the charge with a runner-up finish at 100 pounds, losing to top-ranked Jocelyn Prado of Johnson County Central in the finals.

Kadence Rees took consolation honors at 155 pounds, winning four straight matches after a consolation defeat to earn the bronze medal with a pin in her final match.

Nyla Bolles finished fourth at 130 pounds, Raegan Maas was fifth at 105 and Anna Naeve came home sixth at 145 pounds.
