Wayne girls eliminated from conference tourney

A third Mid State Conference girls basketball tournament game was on the schedule for Wayne High moving into the loser’s bracket.

From Boone Central in Albion, Wayne High took on Battle Creek for a trip to the fifth place game.

The Wayne High girls suffered a 50-32 loss against the Bravettes.

Earlier this season, Battle Creek won 58-25 on December 6 in Battle Creek.

During the girls only contest, Battle Creek took the early 11-2 first quarter lead followed by Wayne answering with a 13-10 second quarter. Battle Creek led 21-15 at the break. The Bravettes outscored Wayne, 15-10 in the third and 14-7 in the fourth. Final favored Battle Creek winning 50-32 to improve to 15-6 as the Blue Devils dropped back-to-back falling to 10-12.

Wayne High leaders were junior Haley Kramer with six points followed by juniors Reagan McGuire, Elle Powicki and Lilyan Hurner all with five points.

Other scoring came from sophomore Lily Gubbels and junior Claire Lutter both with four points, sophomore Mallory Redden tallied two points as sophomore Addison Frank finished with a point.

The Blue Devils shot 6-10 from the foul line.

Battle Creek leaders were senior Sophie Humphrey with 16 points on four made three’s as seniors Jadyn Buckendahl and Sami Wemhoff (7-8 FT) both added 11 points.

The Bravettes finished 12-16 at the charity stripe.
