Two Mid State Conference opponents took over a Tuesday night during the regular season.
From the Wayne Jr/Sr High School gymnasium, the Blue Devils welcomed in the Bluejays of Guardian Angels Central Catholic (West Point).
The Wayne High girls suffered a 63-51 loss while the WHS boys won 63-34 against GACC.
In the girls game, Wayne held the early 14-9 first quarter lead before GACC used a 14-8 second quarter to take a 23-22 lead at the break. The visiting Bluejays outscored Wayne, 29-16 in the third as Wayne won the fourth, 13-11. Final favored Guardian Angels Central Catholic winning 63-51 picking up their fifth straight victory improving to 7-2 as the Blue Devils fell to 5-7.
Wayne leaders were junior Haley Kramer with 13 points while sophomore Alexis Legler added 10 points.
Other scoring came from junior Claire Lutter with eight points, juniors Reagan McGuire and Lilyan Hurner both followed with five points, junior Elle Powicki and sophomore Addison Frank each tallied four points as freshman Audrey Lutter scored two points.
The Blue Devils finished 8-11 from the foul line.
During the boys outing, Wayne began with a 16-10 first quarter before adding a 15-4 second to lead 31-14 at the break. The Blue Devils outscored GACC, 32-20 in the second half to win 63-34 improving to 10-1 as GACC fell to 3-5.
Wayne leaders were senior Gavin Redden with 20 points on three made three’s, senior Colson Nelsen added 11 points as sophomore Jaxson Kneifl followed with 10 points.
Other scoring came from junior Jace Jorgensen with nine points, seniors Kaden Keller and Brayden Rajaee-Hallgren both tallied four points, freshman Theo Claussen and junior Brody Munter each scored two points as senior Nacho Diaz had a point.
Wayne High shot 6-13 at the charity stripe.
The Wayne High boys will next host Norfolk Catholic on Thursday, Jan. 9 while the Wayne High girls will next host Pierce on Friday, Jan. 10.Both the Blue Devil girls and boys will be in action on the same night on Saturday, Jan.11 hosting Boone Central.
