KEARNEY — Wayne’s girls cross country team had two runners finish in the top 20 and placed fifth as a team at the UNK Invitational Monday at the Kearney Country Club.

The meet, which features more than 2,000 runners from across all four classes in the state, is a precursor for the state meet that comes up the end of October, and both Wayne teams finished in the upper half of their respective classses.

The Wayne girls were led by senior Laura Hasemann, who came home in 11th place, followed by sophomore Kyla Krusemark, who was 20th. Jala Krusemark (26th) and Olivia Hanson (54th) rounded out the Wayne girls’ scoring effort.

In boys competition, the Blue Devils finished 15th and were led by Drew Miller, who finished 20th. Kasen York (67th), Easton Blecke (105th) and Mason Ley (121st) rounded out the scoring for the Blue Devil boys.

The Wayne runners will next see action Thursday at the Aquinas Invitational in David City.
