Wayne girls finish conference runner-up led by four champions; boys collect three medals

A second northeast Nebraska conference wrestling tournament featured eight girls and 10 boys teams which included Wayne High over the weekend.

From the Boone County Fairgrounds in Albion, Boone Central was listed as the host site of the Mid State Conference Championships on Saturday.

The Wayne High girls placed runner-up with 130 points among 10 wrestlers while the Blue Devil boys finished eighth with 53.5 points among 15 wrestlers. Both teams battled injuries and illness.

In the girls division, Pierce was crowned Mid State Conference team champ with 171 points, Wayne followed in runner-up (130), Battle Creek took third (123.5), Crofton-Bloomfield placed fourth (116) and Boone Central rounded out the top five teams with 91 points.

Wayne High leaders were conference champions Lupita Alba (105), Serenity Heil-Ellis (125), Nyla Bolles (135) and Anna Naeve (145) while Kadence Rees (155) followed in runner-up. Ivette Ozuna (140) and Andrea Bacillio (100) both took third.

Other scoring came from Megan Magnuson (130) while Gracelynn Daniels (115) and Macy Wilson (120) were also in action.

During the boys division, Battle Creek was crowned Mid State Conference team champ with 261.5 points, Crofton-Bloomfield followed in runner-up (174), Cedar Catholic took third (159), Pierce placed fourth (145.5) and Boone Central rounded out the top five teams with 110 points.

Wayne High leaders were Ethan Gregory (120) in third as Grady Maas (106) and Will Leseberg (126) both took fourth.

Other scoring came from Emmanuel Gonzalez (106), Noah Magnuson (132), Thomas Raymundo (138), Ty Zach (144), Grant Maas (150), Taven Ocampo (157) and Keaton Gregory (215) while Alvaro Archundia (113), Weston Patefield (138), Daevin Casarrubia (144), Samuel Leseberg (157) and Maddox Ziska (285) were also in action.
