The Wayne girls took top honors and the Blue Devil boys finished fourth in Tuesday’s Wayne Invitational at the Kern Track.
The Blue Devil ladies won four events on the day. Hailey Backer led a 1-2 finish with Maysn Dorey in the pole vault, Sidney Biggerstaff won the 100-meter hurdles, Andrea Torres took the 3,200-meter run, and the 3,200-meter relay of Maddie Beair, Sarah Greenwald, Torres and Frankie Klausen were winners.
The Wayne girls won the seven-team meet with 156 points, easily outdistancing runner-up Stanton (111).
Laurel-Concord-Coleridge and Winside both competed in Tuesday’s meet. the Lady Bears finished fifth and the Wildcats were sixth overall. LCC’s 400-meter relay of Vanessa Vance, Kaci Groene, Emily Hangman and Lorna Maxon took first to lead the Lady Bears, while Callie Finn won the 1,600-meter run to highlight the Wildcats’ effort.
In boys action, Wayne finished with 59 points to take fourth out of the seven-team competition, finishing ahead of fifth-place Winside and sixth-place LCC. Stanton’s boys outscored Wisner-Pilger 144-120 for the team title.
For the Blue Devils, Collin Clausen was the lone winner of the day, recording a personal-best leap of 6 feet in the high jump.
Jayden Reifenrath had runner-up finishes in the high jump and 100-meter dash to highlight LCC’s day. Hayden King was runner-up in the discus and shot put and JaShaun Vyborny took second in the triple jump to lead Winside’s day.
