After being postponed due to weather in December, Wayne High went right back to work during a rescheduled week-night outing.
From Lakeview Public Schools in Columbus, the Blue Devils visited Columbus Lakeview on Thursday.
The Wayne High girls had a look at three to force overtime but suffered a 43-40 loss while the Blue Devil boys remain undefeated thanks to a 48-43 victory.
In the girls game, Wayne built a slight 11-7 first quarter lead before adding an 18-10 second quarter to go up 29-17 at the break. Lakeview then began the comeback thanks to a 19-2 third as Wayne won the fourth, 9-7. Final favored the host Columbus Lakeview winning 43-40 to improve to 3-5 while Wayne fell to 4-6.
Wayne High leaders were sophomore Addison Frank with 16 points on four made three’s followed by junior Haley Kramer with 12 points.
Other scoring came from sophomores Alexis Legler and Mallory Redden both with four points, junior Reagan McGuire hit a three-pointer as junior Elle Powicki scored a point. The Blue Devils shot 3-7 from the foul line.
From the boys outing, Lakeview had a 9-8 advantage in the first quarter before Wayne High answered with a 17-8 second quarter to go up 25-17 at the break. Columbus Lakeview won the third, 14-12 and fourth, 12-11 as final favored Wayne High winning 48-43 to improve to 9-0 as the host Vikings fell to 5-3.
Wayne High leaders were senior Colson Nelsen with 16 points on four made three’s while junior Jace Jorgensen followed with 11 points.
Other scoring came from senior Gavin Redden with nine points, junior Brodey Munter added six points, senior Kaden Keller tallied four points as junior Drew Reinhardt scored two points.
The Blue Devils finished 11-15 at the charity stripe.
