After competing in a rescheduled road doubleheader Thursday night, the Wayne High girls and boys were back on their home court for the first time since Dec. 20.
From the Wayne High gymnasium, the Blue Devils welcomed Douglas County West on Saturday.
The Wayne High girls won 48-35 while the Blue Devil boys suffered a 54-51 loss against the visiting Falcons.
In the girls game, DC West built a 20-12 first quarter lead followed by Wayne High winning the second quarter, 10-8. The Falcons led 28-22 at the break. Wayne High then outscored Douglas County West, 11-4 in the third and 15-3 in the fourth. Final favored Wayne High winning 48-35 to improve to 5-6 as Douglas County West fell to 2-7.
Wayne High leaders were junior Haley Kramer with 16 points as junior Claire Lutter added 12 points.
Sophomore Alexis Legler followed with nine points and junior Elle Powicki tallied five points.
During the boys outing, Wayne High led 15-10 following the first quarter as DC West answered with a 15-13 second quarter. WHS led 28-25 at the break. The visiting Falcons then outscored Wayne, 14-13 in the third and 15-10 in the fourth. Final favored Douglas County West winning 54-51 to improve to 7-1 as the Blue Devils fell to 9-1.
Double figure leaders for Wayne were senior Colson Nelsen (three made three’s) with 16 points, junior Jace Jorgensen added 11 points as sophomore Jaxson Kneifl followed with 10 points.
Other scoring came from senior Kaden Keller with six points as junior Drew Reinhardt and senior Gavin Redden both scored four points.
