Wayne girls win, boys second at Battle Creek

The Wayne High girls took first-place honors and the boys were runner-up in a four-team track meet Thursday at Battle Creek.
The Blue Devil girls scored points in all 17 events to run away with the team title, scoring 204 points to runner-up Battle Creek's 178. Hartington CC (83) and Mdison (21) also competed.
Event winners for Wayne included Tarah Stegemann (200, high jump), Kylie Hammer (400), Sydney Biggerstaff (100 hurdles), Danica Schaefer (shot put), Jenna Trenhaile (discus) and the 1,600 and 3,200-meter relays. Stegemann, Hammer, Kelsey Boyer and Gabi Meyer were on the winning 1,600 relay, while Boyer, Molly Hoskin, Sarah Greenwald and Andrea Torres ran the winning 3,200 relay.
The Wayne boys scored 120 points and finished behind the host Braves (151), while Madison (102) and Hartington CC (87) followed in the team standings.
Winners for the Blue Devils were Christian Rogers (100, 200), Brandon Wacker (3,200) and Grayson McBride (high jump, triple jump).
Wayne competes in the B-4 district track meet on Thursday in O'Neill.
