A handful of high school events along with home Wildcat basketball took over Dec. 18.
Both Winside and Tri Country Northeast were in action on the court against each other, Wakefield was on their home court, Winside boys wrestling took to the road as did Tri County Northeast girls and boys. WSC basketball was also on their home court.
From Winside, the Tri County Northeast girls basketball team defeated Winside, 37-34 while the Winside boys won 62-53 over TCNE.
The Winside girls (1-4) and boys (4-1, winner's of four straight) will close out a five-game home stretch hosting Creighton on Dec. 19 at 6/8 p.m.
The Tri County Northeast girls (2-2) and boys (0-4) are back on the road on Dec. 19 visiting Ponca starting at 4:30 p.m. for JV action.
From the Pender Quad, the Winside boys wrestling team went 0-3 finishing with losses of 27-24 to Randolph, 48-16 to Stanton and 41-21 against the host Pender.
Contested match wins on the evening were posted by Mason Edwards (144) by fall (1:15) against Randolph; Stratton Sellin (165) by fall (3:33) against Randolph as well as two wins by Asher Uttecht (157 against Stanton by major decision, 15-4) and (150 by decision, 8-5 against Pender).
Next up for the Pender boys will be back on the mat on Dec. 20 during the Wisner-Pilger Invite starting at 10 a.m.
During the Ponca Quad, the Tri County Northeast girls only had two matches recorded by winning 18-6 over Bancroft-Rosalie while falling 48-15 to Winnebago as the Wolfpack boys used a 42-6 victory over Bancroft-Rosalie, won the tie breaker (30-30) over Ponca thanks to near fall points (4-0) and lost 36-30 to Winnebago.
The lone TCNE contested girls match victory came from Jayda Stallbaum (140) by decision (12-8) against Winnebago.
Contested match boys victories on the night for the Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op were posted by Braxten Sebade (150) by fall (1:31) against Ponca along with three wins from Nate Franzluebbers (285) by fall (1:09) against Bancroft-Rosalie, by fall (1:20) against Ponca and by fall (1:09) against Bancroft-Rosalie.
The Tri County Northeast girls will travel to Elgin on Dec. 19 (2 p.m.) while the Wolfpack boys will compete in the Osmond Invite on Dec. 20 (9:30 a.m.).
From the main gym in Wakefield, the Wakefield girls basketball team suffered a 50-21 loss while the Trojan boys secured a 69-52 victory against Hartington-Newcastle.
The Wakefield girls (0-7) and boys (5-2, winner's of five straight) will next travel to Stanton on Dec. 19 starting with JV action at 4:30 p.m.
From Rice Auditorium on the campus of Wayne State College, the WSC men snapped a three-game losing streak thanks to a 79-65 victory while the Wildcat women dropped their fifth straight following a 69-59 loss against Concordia-St. Paul.
The Wayne State College men (6-6/2-4 NSIC) and women (6-6/1-5 NSIC) will next host Winona State on Dec. 20 starting with men's action at 1 p.m.
