All five Wayne Herald area high school basketball teams were in action on Dec. 19, Blue Devil bowling opened a series of home events, Wayne High girls and boys wrestling went their separate ways as Tri County Northeast and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls wrestling were in the same location.
From West Point, the Wayne High girls basketball team picked up a dominating 59-5 win while the Blue Devil boys were also victorious thanks to a 53-47 final at West Point-Beemer.
The Wayne girls (4-1) and boys (3-2) will next host O'Neill on Dec. 20 at 3:30/5 p.m.
From Wildcat Lanes in Wayne, the Wayne High girls and boys bowling program hosted Howells-Dodge.

The Wayne High bowling program will next host an invite on Dec. 30 starting at 10 a.m.
From the Blair Duals, the Wayne High boys wrestling team finished fourth (2-4) among the six teams. The Blue Devils began with a 63-18 loss to Plattsmouth, lost 51-30 to York, lost 54-27 to Blair, won 55-15 over Omaha Buena Vista and closed with a 60-21 win over Lincoln Christian.
A 5-0 performance was posted by Grant Maas (157) with wins by fall (3:15, 5:48 and 0:59), decision (13-9) and by forfeit (165).
A trio of 4-1 finishes went to Grady Maas (106) with wins by fall (1:20, 1:54 and 0:27) and by forfeit; Emmanuel Gonzalez (113) with wins by fall (1:59, 2:38 and 0:25) and decision (7-0) as well as Maddox Ziska (285) with wins by fall (5:19, 3:56 and 1:48) and by forfeit.
The Wayne High boys wrestling team will next compete in the Creighton Prep Invite on Dec. 23 starting at 9 a.m.
From Elgin, the Wayne High girls wrestling team posted a first place finish (191 points) among the 23 girls teams. Also, the Tri County Northeast girls finished 15th (20.5) while the LCC girls took 17th (16).
Top Blue Devil medalists came from Megan Magnuson (135) and Nyla Bolles (140) both winning their division while Edmy Balux (105), Serenity Heil-Ellis (130) and Anna Naeve (145) followed in second.
Ayvree Abler (120), Ivette Ozuna (155) and Alexandria Ziska (170) placed third as Hadley Woehler (115), Zoe Bolles (155) and Jasmine Contreras (235) all took fourth.
The lone TCNE medal was posted by Jenni Olson (105) who won her weight class and scored all the team points.
Among the five LCC girls wrestlers, Darly Garcia-Perez (155) scored the most team points with eight (2-2). Tae Settje (120) followed with six points going 2-2 with both wins in the elimination round.
The Wayne High girls will next travel to the Pierce Invite on Dec. 20 at 10 a.m.
Tri County Northeast girls will also compete in Pierce on Dec. 20 (10 a.m.)
The LCC girls wrestlers will be off until Jan. 10 during the Winside Invite at 10 a.m.
From Winside, the Winside girls basketball team won 49-40 while the Wildcat boys saw their four-game winning streak snapped falling 50-44 against Creighton.
The Winside girls (2-4) and boys (4-2) will next visit Crofton on Dec. 22 at 5:30/7 p.m.
From Laurel, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team won 59-44 while the LCC boys dropped back-to-back following a 54-40 loss against Plainview.
The LCC girls (4-2, winner's of four straight) and boys (3-3) will next compete in the 2025 Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout in Wayne.
First round games will open against Pender on Dec. 29 at Rice Auditorium starting with the girls at 11 a.m. followed by the boys at 12:30 p.m.
From Ponca, the Tri County Northeast girls basketball team suffered a 42-26 loss while the Allen/Emerson-Hubbard boys dropped a 69-15 decision at Ponca.
The Wolfpack girls (2-3) and boys (0-5) will next visit Tekamah-Herman on Dec. 22 starting with JV action at 4:30 p.m.
From Stanton, the Wakefield girls basketball team lost 55-21 while the Trojan boys won 67-36 at Stanton.
The Wakefield girls (0-8) and boys (6-2, winner's of six straight) will next travel to Ewing for the Summerland Holiday Tournament on Dec. 29.
Both teams will open against Winside at 1 p.m. (girls) and 2:30 p.m. (boys).
