Wayne, Winside and Tri County Northeast sent their basketball teams to the road to open the week on Dec. 22 ahead of their moratorium break.
From Ponca during a rescheduled game due to weather earlier in the season, the Wayne High girls won 39-37 while the Blue Devil boys secured a 47-42 victory at Ponca.
The Wayne girls (5-2) and boys (5-2, winner's of four straight) are off until hosting the 2025 Elkhorn Valley Bank & Trust Great Northeast Nebraska Shootout Tournament.
The Blue Devil girls will open night one on Dec. 29 against South Sioux City at 8:30 p.m. while the Wayne boys earn a first round bye (only seven teams in boys bracket) advancing to the Dec. 30 semifinal round awaiting the winner of either Cedar Catholic or South Sioux City at 7 p.m. from Rice.
From Crofton, the Winside girls suffered a 63-24 loss while Wildcat boys dropped a 72-23 decision at Crofton following five straight home games.
The Winside girls (2-5) and boys (4-3) will next travel to Ewing for the Summerland Tournament on Dec. 29. Winside will open with Wakefield at 1 p.m. (girls) and 2:30 p.m. (boys).
From Tekamah, the Tri County Northeast girls suffered a 44-38 loss while the Wolfpack boys snapped a five-game losing streak thanks to a 72-62 win at Tekamah-Herman.
The Allen/Emerson-Hubbard co-op girls (2-4) and boys (1-5) are off until the Stanton Holiday Tourney beginning on Dec. 29. TCNE will open against Twin River with girls action at 2 p.m. followed by boys at 3:45 p.m.
