Just under a week into NSAA winter sports action and a trio of area Wayne Herald basketball squads saw their first Tuesday (Dec. 9) action along with road bowling and wrestling.

From the Wayne Jr/Sr High gymnasium, the Blue Devil girls and boys hosted Wakefield for high school basketball; Wayne bowling traveled to Columbus for a double dual; Wakefield girls and boys wrestling visited Homer for a dual as Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls and boys basketball entertained Homer.

Off the court, it was about 'Team Up For the Metzlers' with funds raised in support of Chad Metzler.

On the court, the Wayne girls (2-0) won 55-19 over Wakefield (0-3) while the Blue Devil boys (1-1) suffered a 59-58 loss to the Trojans (1-2).

Wayne will next visit Wahoo (Dec. 12) starting with JV action at 4:30 p.m. while Wakefield will return to action (Dec. 12) hosting Battle Creek starting at 4:45 p.m.

 

In Columbus during the double bowling dual for Wayne, the Blue Devils girls won two duals while the Wayne boys split with their two opponents.

In girls action, Wayne won 19.5-1.5 against Lincoln High (683-442/660-418 pinfall/118-74 baker game). The Blue Devils then won 14-7 over Lexington (802-574/660-542 pinfall/112-144 baker game).

Top wins against Lincoln High were posted by Regan Fernau (159), Graycen Trautman (149/143), Marie Allemann (139), Allemann / Avery Gubbels (142), Madi Korth / Gracyn Johnson (115/146) and McKaeya Becker (135). 

Top wins over Lexington came from Trautman (team-best 205/116), Becker (167), Becker / Sophia Petersen (138), Madi Korth (163), Allemann  (153), Allemann / Sophia Petersen (139) and Fernau / Johnson (116). 

During boys action, Wayne first shutout Lincoln High 21-0 (996-571/961-433 pinfall/won baker game, no scoring) followed by a 12.5-8.5 loss to Lexington (940-751 Wayne/951-874 Lexington pinfall/214-199 and 175-160 baker games for Lexington).

Top wins over Lincoln High were posted by Dylan Jensen (team-best 253/210), Aiden Petersen (221/248), Ben Haschke (188/184), Konnor Kai / Dreu Jensen (169/156) and Blake Smith / Kash Haase (165/163). 

Top wins against Lexington came from  Petersen (223), Smith (204), Zane Sievers (178), Dylan Jensen / Haschke (176) and Haschke (190).

The Wayne High bowling program will next travel to Norfolk (Dec. 13) for the Boone Central Invite starting at 9 a.m.

 

From Laurel, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls (1-2) secured a 59-58 home win over Homer (2-1) while the LCC boys (2-1) handed the Knights (0-3) a 63-48 loss.

The Bears will next travel to Emerson (Dec. 12) visiting Tri County Northeast starting at 4 p.m. for JV action.

 

Wakefield wrestling visited Homer where the no results were posted for the girls dual (as of Tuesday night) while the Trojan boys secured a 30-24 victory.

The lone contested match win in the boys dual for Wakefield was posted by Ezequiel Ramirez (190) by fall (1:01).

Baldwin Garcia (106), Hayden McAfee (126), Israel Garcia (132) and Lane Fischer (144) all won by forfeit.

The Wakefield girls will next travel to Fort Calhoun (Dec. 12 at 4:30 p.m.) while the Trojan boys will compete in Stanton (Dec. 13 at 9:30 a.m.).
