Wayne boys, Winside boys, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls, Wakefield boys and Tri County Northeast boys basketball along with Wayne girls, Winside girls, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls, Wakefield girls and Tri County Northeast girls wrestling all began day one district championship wrestling.
Also in action on Feb. 6, the Wayne State College indoor track & field Wildcat Invite was held showcasing 13 teams inside the Wildcat Dome, LCC boys wrestling hit the road and Wayne State College baseball began their season four time zones to the west of the central time zone.
From Albion (Boone Central) during the semifinal round of the Mid State Conference Tournament, #5 Wayne boys suffered a 67-31 loss against #1 Norfolk Catholic.
The Blue Devils (11-10) are back in action on Feb. 7 for the third place game at 3:15 p.m. from Northeast Community College facing #2 Crofton.
The sixth-seeded Wayne girls (12-10) will open Feb. 7 at 10 a.m. during the fifth place game against #4 Pierce.
From Ogallala during day one of the B-4 District Championships, the Wayne girls wrestling team sits third (43.5 pts) among the 27 teams with scoring after day one.
Day two action of the B-4 District Championships continue on Feb. 7 at 9:30 a.m. CT in Ogallala for the Wayne girls wrestling team.
From Plainview, the four other Wayne Herald girls wrestling programs were in action during day one of the B-1 District Championships.
Day one area team leaders are Wakefield in 14th (25 pts), followed by Tri County Northeast (15th - 23.5), Winside sits 24th (13 pts) and Laurel-Concord-Coleridge is in 25th (9 pts) among the 31 teams with scoring thus far.
Day two action of the B-1 District Championships resume at 9:30 a.m. in Plainview on Feb. 7.
From Walthill during the Lewis and Clark Conference boys basketball tournament, #10 Tri County Northeast edged #6 Winside, 57-53.
The Wolfpack boys (4-16) will advance to the fifth place game on Feb. 7 at TBA facing #5 Walthill at 6 p.m.
The Winside boys (5-14, dropped second straight) finished 1-2 in the Lewis and Clark Conference Tourney and will next join their girls team on Feb. 10 hosting Stanton at 6/7:45 p.m.
The sixth-seeded Winside girls (7-14) went 1-2 during the Lewis and Clark tourney and will next join their boys team hosting Stanton on Feb. 10 at 6/7:45 p.m.
The eighth-seeded Tri County Northeast girls (4-16) also went 1-2 in tourney play. The Wolfpack will next join their boys team on Feb. 9 at Wakefield for a make-up game starting at 4 p.m. (JV).
From Tilden (Elkhorn Valley) during the semifinal round of the Greater Northeast Activities Tournament, #3 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls dropped a 47-44 decision against #2 West Holt.
The Bears (14-8) will next face #5 Plainview on Feb. 7 in Laurel during the GNAC third place game at 4:30 p.m.
The sixth-seeded LCC boys (7-13) will also compete on Feb. 7 in Laurel during the GNAC third place game against #4 Elkhorn Valley at 3 p.m.
From Bancroft during the East Husker Conference boys basketball consolation round, #7 Wakefield (13-7) finished their tourney play with a 58-35 win against #9 Clarkson/Leigh.
The 14th-seeded Wakefield girls (3-17) went 0-2 during the EHC tourney and will next host Tri County Northeast on Feb. 9 in a make-up game starting at 4 p.m. (JV).
From Leigh, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys wrestling team finished 20th (10 pts) among 22 teams during the Clarkson/Leigh Invite.
LCC was led in scoring by the four team points won by Owen Johnson (106). No LCC varsity wrestlers earned a medal.
Jayson Wayman (175) finished third in the JV division.
The Bears will next compete in the C-1 District on Feb. 14 at Madison. starting at 9 a.m.
Wayne State College hosted their third and final indoor competition from the Wildcat Dome during the Wildcat Invite.

The WSC women's and men's indoor track & field team will next travel to the SDSU Classic in Brookings, SD Feb. 13-14.
From Hilo, Hawaii, Wayne State College baseball began with a double-header (change from previous schedule).
The 'Cats won game one, 3-1 in nine innings and were in action during a seven-inning game still Friday night.
The Wildcats (1-0, in action during game two) will next compete in a doubleheader against Hawaii at Hilo starting at 4 p.m. CT on Feb. 7. A single game is now scheduled for 4:30 p.m. CT on Feb. 8. against Hawaii at Hilo.
