Wayne and Winside basketball, Wayne girls wrestling, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys wrestling as well as Wayne State College basketball were in action on Jan. 23.
 
From Hartington, the Wayne girls basketball team snapped a three-game losing streak thanks to a 48-39 win while the Blue Devil boys secured a 51-47 victory at Cedar Catholic.
 
The Wayne girls (10-8) and boys (10-7) will next host Blair on Jan. 24 at 2:30/4 p.m.
 
 
From the Norfolk YMCA, the Wayne girls wrestling team finished runner-up among the 16-team Class B field during the NSWCA State Dual Championships.
 
The second-seeded Blue Devil girls began the morning with a 54-24 win over #15 Thayer Central, won 54-24 over #7 Tekamah-Herman, punched their ticket to the finals with a 48-36 win against #3 Wood River before suffering a 45-36 loss in the championship match against #1 Lakeview (Columbus)

The Blue Devil girls wrestling team will next join their boys team on Jan. 24 during the Mid State Conference Championships back in Norfolk starting at 9 a.m.
 
 
From Wausa, the Winside girls dropped a 46-42 decision while the Winside boys lost their sixth straight following a 62-34 defeat at Wausa.
 
The Winside girls (6-11) and boys (5-11) will next visit Bancroft-Rosalie on Jan. 29 starting at 6/7:45 p.m. 
 
 
From Madison, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys wrestling team scored three team points to finish 16th among the 17 teams during the Madison Invite.
 
Wakefield was originally scheduled to compete but withdrew from competition due to early travel time in cold weather.
 
LCC team points were posted by Jake Lipp (190). 
 
The Wakefield boys wrestling team will no longer compete in the Oakland-Craig Invite on Jan. 24 due to injuries. Both Wakefield girls and boys will next compete on Jan. 27 during the Winnebago triangular starting at 5 p.m.
 
The Laurel-Concord-Coleridge boys wrestlers will next join their girls team on Jan. 29 at Randolph at 6 p.m. 
 
 
From Wakefield, the Wakefield basketball teams were scheduled to host Tri County Northeast but the games have since been rescheduled to Feb. 9 starting at 4 p.m.
 
The Wakefield girls (2-13) and boys (8-6) will next host Clarkson/Leigh on Jan. 24 at 3:15/4:45 p.m.
 
The TCNE girls (3-12) and boys (2-14) will next host Walthill on Jan. 26 starting at 6 p.m.
 
 
From Bismarck, North Dakota, the Wayne State College women's basketball team lost their second straight (91-87) while the WSC men have now won back-to-back thanks to a 91-74 victory at University of Mary.
 
The Wildcat women (9-10, 4-9 NSIC) and men (11-8, 7-6 NSIC) will next visit Minot State on Jan. 24 at 3:30/5:30 p.m.
