It was a busy day on Jan. 6 full of high school basketball for Wayne, Winside, Laurel-Concord-Coleridge, Wakefield and Tri County Northeast as well as a girl/boy road wrestling triangular for Wayne and the Tri County Northeast boys wrestlers competing in a dual tourney.
From West Point, the Wayne High girls basketball team suffered a 47-31 loss at Guardian Angels Central Catholic while the Blue Devil boys dropped a 37-30 decision at GACC.
The Wayne High boys (7-4) will next visit Norfolk Catholic on Jan. 8 (7:30 p.m.) followed by the Blue Devil girls (8-4) at Pierce on Jan. 9 (7:30 p.m.).
From Albion, the Wayne girls wrestlers went 2-0 (W54-27 over Boone Central, W41-30 over Plainview/Osmond) while the Blue Devil boys wrestlers went 1-1 (W43-32 over Boone Central, L59-18 to Plainview) during the Boone Central triangular.
Both teams will return to the mat on Jan. 9 with the Wayne girls traveling to Malcolm (3 p.m.) and Wayne boys at Lincoln North Star (3 p.m.).
From Madison, the Winside girls basketball team lost 35-32 while the Wildcat boys fell 75-41 at Madison.
The Winside girls (4-7) and boys (5-6) will next host Randolph on Jan. 8 (6/8 p.m.).
From Tilden, the Laurel-Concord-Coleridge girls basketball team dropped a 54-37 decision while the LCC boys snapped a four-game losing streak with a 61-56 victory at Elkhorn Valley.
The LCC girls (6-5) and boys (4-5) will next host Cedar Catholic on Jan. 8 (4:30 p.m.).
From Norfolk, the Wakefield girls basketball team snapped a 12-game losing streak dating back to Feb. 4, 2025 thanks to a 44-43 victory while the Trojan boys lost 65-49 at Lutheran High Northeast.
The Wakefield girls (1-10) and boys (7-4) will next be at home on Jan. 8 with Ponca in town at 6/7:30 p.m.
From Sioux City, Iowa, the Tri County Northeast boys basketball team lost 57-45 at Siouxland Christian.
The TCNE girls (3-6) will return to action next with the Wolfpack boys (2-9) visiting Wynot on Jan. 8 (4:30 p.m.).
From Pender, the Tri County Northeast boys wrestlers finished fifth after going 1-4 during the six-team Pender Duals.
The TCNE girls wrestling team will return to action on Jan. 12 during the Summerland Invite at 1 p.m. while the Wolfpack boys are back on the mat at the Malcolm Invite on Jan. 10 (9:30 a.m.).
