A trio of Wayne Herald area volleyball programs began their respective conference tournament on Oct. 20.
From West Point (GACC), Wayne opened the Mid State Conference with a 3-0 sweep over Crofton (25-14, 25-12, 26-24). Later in the evening, the Blue Devils were swept by GACC (17-25, 18-25, 19-25).
*Mid State Conference seedings were not available.
Wayne High (18-12) will return to action at Norfolk Catholic on Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m. against Boone Central during the loser's bracket of the Mid State Conference Tourney.
Lewis and Clark Conference Tourney bracket play showcased both Tri County Northeast and Winside.
From Homer, #2 Tri County Northeast picked up a three set victory (best two of three) over #7 Creighton (23-25, 25-18, 25-19) followed by a 3-0 sweep (best three of five) against #6 Wausa (25-11, 25-18, 25-17).
The Wolfpack (22-4) will next face #1 Wynot on Oct. 21 in Randolph around 6:30 p.m. during the finals. The Lewis and Clark Conference consolation match will open at 5:30 p.m. between #4 Homer and #6 Wausa. Earlier this season in Allen on Sept. 30, Tri Country Northeast won 3-0 over Wynot (25-22, 25-21, 30-28).
From Randolph, #5 Winside suffered a three-set loss (best two of three) against #4 Homer (25-20, 19-25, 22-25) followed by a three set victory (best two of three) over #8 Osmond (25-15, 21-25, 25-10).
The Wildcats (12-13) will close out their regular season at Lyons-Decatur Northeast on Oct. 24 starting at 5 p.m. (match moved from Thursday due to playoff football).
