Five set matches decided two champions within the Wayne Herald coverage area during mid-week action during the NSAA postseason volleyball tournament with many subdistricts moving into day three of matches.
From Battle Creek during the C1-6 Subdistrict, #2 Wayne built a 2-0 lead before dropping a five set match at #1 Battle Creek (25-15, 25-21, 21-25, 19-25, 10-15).
The Blue Devils fell to 21-13.
Back in Oakland, #2 Laurel-Concord-Coleridge secured a five-set victory over #1 Oakland-Craig (25-21, 21-25, 25-20, 19-25, 15-7).
The Bears are now 30-3 and earned an automatic spot in the district final one win away from state.
Subdistrict champions will join wildcard teams during the District final with matches scheduled for Nov. 1.
